In demonstration of their willingness to strengthen bilateral ties with the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority – SLRSA, The Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria – FRSC have offered scholarship opportunities and donated Road Safety gadgets to the Road Safety Corps of Sierra Leone. This was disclosed by the Director of Safety And Enforcement of SLRSA Mr. Augustine Kaitonji.
This goodwill gesture came days after the Executive Director of SLRSA Mr. Ibrahim Sannoh had a strategic engagement with the Secretary to the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Corp Marshal of the FRSC and other senior officers of the FRSC during a week long working visit to the FRSC in Abuja, Nigeria.
Director Kaitonji said the consignment include; 100 Reflective Vests,100 Rain gears, 50 Bags of first aid kits, 50 Operational lights and 100 modern Earthway breathalyzers. He said the FRSC is also willing to send 2 senior officers from its Road Safety Academy for capacity building in the area of accident crash data collection and analysis.
“The one week visit to Abuja, Nigeria has been very educative and enlightening as I intends to firstly get government support in signing the 6(six) United Nations Convention on Road Safety, a National Road Safety Strategy on the New Decade Action plan from 2021 to 2030 with the the aim of reducing fatalities and crashes by 50%.” Mr. Ibrahim Sannoh said.
He added that Scholarship opportunities have also been offered to senior management of the Road Safety Corps for Capacity Building initiative at the FRSC academy in Enugu State in Nigeria.
Nigeria is among the few countries within the sub region that has demonstrated full commitment to supporting Road Safety in Sierra Leone.
Mr. Ibrahim Sannoh since his appointment as Executive Director of SLRSA a year ago, has shown strong leadership and the SLRSA continues to win the goodwill of leading Road Safety Institutions across the globe.
